Maybach History

Maybach_historyMaybach is a German car brand. It’s a part of DaimlerChrysler Group. Produces luxury cars exclusive representative.

The history of the brand began in 1921 when a talented designer Wilhelm Maybach designed his first car W-3. This model was equipped with 6-cylinder engine 5.7 L. It was a first german car, which had brakes on all wheels. The next model W-5, produced in 1926, was equipped with 7,0 L engine. That allowed the car to reach the 121 km/h speed.

In spring 1929, Wilhelm Maybach suddenly fell ill and died two days later. Firm was headed by his son Karl Maybach.

W6 model was manufactured from 1931 up to 1933 with six-cylinder engine from the W5.

Not so expensive model DSH (”Doppel-Sechs-Halbe” – “half of the twelve cylinders”) was produced from 1930 up to 1937. It was equipped with a 5.2-liter engine. Car series “SW” was produced during the 1935-1941 period. It consisted of such models like: “SW-35″, “SW-38″ and “SW-42″. These were the last models of Maybach.

Between 1921 and 1941, the company Maybach-Motorenbau producer about 1,800 luxury cars. Also the company constructed from 5 to 10 cars for exhibitions every year. All these cars were very expensive, and among them there were no two identical copies. In nowdays there are still 152 pre-war Maybach cars.

During the war the Maybach company produced exclusively tank engines (about 140 000). After the war, Karl Maybach worked in the captivity of the French, developing aircraft engines. In the 50s he again started to manage his company, producing various stationary, marine and rail engines.

In 1961, the rights for Maybach brand were bought by Daimler Benz, which in the late 90’s decided to renew the forgotten brand. Thus, after 60 years of non-existence, the legendary brand experienced a rebirth.

In 1997, Mercedes-Benz showed prototype of Maybach car. The DaymlerChrysler company created the most luxurious sedan in the world – Mercedes-Benz Maybach.

DaimlerChrysler’s new creation is available in two versions – a standard Maybach 57(5.72 meters long) and Maybach 62 (6.16 meters long). Both models are equipped with a Maybach Type 12 engine(550 hp), which is controlled by a microcomputer and is made of aluminum and magnesium.

These cars are manufactured by factories in Germany and USA, getting orders for cars from the Maybach-specialized centers located around the world. Maybach cars have four-years warranty, which includes free repairs and free maintenance. Factory prices for the models are as follows: 310 thousands of euros for Maybach 57 and 360 thousands of euros for Maybach 62.
