SsangYong History

SsangYong_historySsangYong is a Korean car brand, its translation means “two dragons”. It is produced by the oldest Korean car manufacturer – SsangYong Group.

Historically, the founding date of the company is considered to be 1954, when workshop Dong-hwan was established in South Korea. Originally it was started production of commercial vehicles such as: trucks, buses and special purpose vehicles.

The first SUV(Sport Utility Vehicle – SUV), produced in Korea was a compact Korando Family. It happened 2 years later, after the 1986, when SsangYong Group bought Keohwa Motors, which produced SUVs under the Korando auto brand.

In 1988, the Korean company bought the famous british firm Panther and started to produce Panther Kallista roadsters.

And in 1997 sedan SsangYong Chairman was presented to the public. Chairman is very similar to the current Mercedes S-Class.

It should be noted that SsangYong cooperates with the german concern DaimlerChrysler AG in producing car engines.

Currently the company SsangYong achieved outstanding results. Kyron cars sales successfully all around the world. After the release of a new model of SUV “Aktion”, the company SsangYong finally got the full range of models of SUV. Moreover, SsangYong plans to develop cars with hybrid engines, which do not harm the environment.
